Incorporated
in 1987 Samcor is a 50:50 joint venture between Corning
Incorporated, USA and Samtel Group to manufacture glass
for TV and display tubes. The commercial operations
started in 1998 with the commissioning of a USD 70 million
B&W glass plant with a capacity of 5.5 million sets
of 14" parts per annum. Samsung Corning was the engineering
contractor for the facility.
Samcor
has a 2-phased strategy to manufacture color glass. In the first phase the existing
facility was upgraded to manufacture 4.8 million color funnels per annum with
an investment of Rs. 120 Crores. |

Simultaneous
manufacture of B&W glass will continue for 4 to 6 months every
year till economically viable.
In the second phase, Samcor will invest approximately Rs.
450 Crores to manufacture panels for Color TV picture tubes.
On completion of all phases of expansion and after Samcor
switches to 100% glass for CPTs, it will have a capacity of
approximately 9 million sets of parts (Panels & Funnels).
